Wan Azizah to remain as PKR president

Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has no plan to carry out a leadership transition between its president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and party advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the party’s annual congress this weekend.

PKR secretary-general Datuk Salehuddin Hashim said the matter did not arise although Dr Wan Azizah had resigned as the Permatang Pauh MP to give way to Anwar to contest the seat.

”There is no plan whatsoever. Why the need to change? She handles the party well,” he told reporters at the PKR headquarters when asked to comment on rumours that there would be a leadership transition in the party at the congress.

The party’s election would only be held in 2010.

The PKR national congress, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at the Melawati Stadium in Shah Alam, will be attended by 1,900 delegates from 180 divisions nationwide. The PKR Youth and Wanita PKR will hold their respective congress on Saturday, also in Shah Alam.
