PKR Youth reminds states to honour promises

PKR Youth has reminded the five Pakatan Rakyat-led states to honour their election promises quickly instead of offering excuses.

The wing’s chief Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin said they would demand for state leaders to be replaced if they did not bring about the changes, such as wiping out corrupt practices.

He said there was no reason for the people to elect PR into power if the coalition was just like the BN administration.

“If the PR state leaders are hesitant, scared to make changes or afraid to take risks, then we have no choice but to call for internal changes by replacing them with leaders who have the ability to lead and make decisions,” he said in his policy speech.

Shamsul said many PKR leaders had high qualifications in various fields, and questioned why they had not been absorbed to play a more prominent role in the state governments’ operations.

He urged the Selangor government to reconsider its stand to sell state land directly to developers, saying that although the move brought about higher returns to the government, it affected poorer entrepreneurs who have the expertise and ability in the field.

“The governments in the five states must be people-friendly. We cannot only be intimate with big businesses and wealthy capitalists,” he said.

On another matter, he called for the party leadership to clearly define the status of young women in the party.

“Can women under 35 join the Wanita wing directly, or are they in the Youth wing?” he asked.

He said it would be a progressive move to have the young women under PKR Youth, although they would accept the leadership’s decision if they felt that young women should be under the Wanita wing.

Shamsul also attacked Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, labelling him a “false hope” for the country as he was an inexperienced Finance Minister who tried to push through his amendments to the Budget 2009.

He also slammed the RM2.31bil Eurocopter deal which was made during Najib’s tenure as Defence Minister. The deal was deferred when Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi took over as Defence Minister.
