Malaysia drop three rungs to 161 in FIFA ranking

Malaysia has dropped three rungs to 161, its second lowest ranking ever, in the latest world rankings released by the International Football Federation (Fifa) yesterday.

According to Fifa’s website, Malaysia is only nine rungs ahead of its lowest standing ever at 170 in April last year.

For the last two years, 2007 and 2008, the best position for Malaysia in the ranking was at 151 in October 2008 after finishing as runner-up in the Merdeka Cup tournament.

Malaysia’s highest ever ranking was 75, but that was in 1993.

Among Southeast Asian nations, Malaysia remained in sixth placing behind Thailand (117), Singapore (131), Vietnam (135), Indonesia (137) and Myanmar (158) while the Philippines at 164, Laos (171), Cambodia (179) and Brunei (183rd) make up the 10 Asean countries list.

In the Asian ranking, Malaysia dropped one rung in the February list after occupying 29th spot in January.
