'Hours of work' means the time during which an employee is at the disposal of the employer and is not free to dispose of his own time and movements.
The maximum number of overtime hours an employee is permitted to work in a month is 104 hours.
'Contract of employment' means any agreement, whether oral or in writing and whether express or implied, whereby one person agrees to employ another as a workman and that other agrees to serve his employers as a workman.
'Strike' means the cessation of work by a body of workmen acting in combination, or a concerted refusal or a refusal under a common understanding of a number of workmen to continue to work or to accept employment, and includes any act or omission by a body of workmen acting in combination or under a common understanding, which is intended to or does result in any limitation, restriction, reduction or cessation of or dilatoriness in the performance or execution of the whole or any part of the duties connected with their employment.
For SOCSO contribution, the employee's share is 0.5% of wages to be paid for coverage under the Invalidity Pension Scheme while the employer pays 1.75% of wages for the Employment Injury Insurance Scheme and the Invalidity Pension Scheme.
Invalidity in SOCSO is defined as a serious disablement or disease of a permanent nature that is either incurable or not likely to be cured, as a result of which an employee is unable to earn at least 1/3 of what a normally able person could earn.

EPF Account Three - 10% of your monthly contributions are credited into this account. Monies in this account can be used for paying medical expenses of critical illnesses. This facility is also available to a member's spouse, children, parents and siblings.
'Part-time employee' means a person whose average hours of work as agreed between him and his employer do not exceed seventy per centum of the normal hours of work of a full time employee employed in a similar capacity in the same enterprise whether the normal hours of work are calculated with reference to a day, a week, or any other period.

For a shift worker, 30 continuous hours of rest can be deemed to be a rest day.
The entitlement to rest days does not apply during the period a worker is: 1. on maternity leave, 2. on sick leave & 3. temporarily disabled under the Workmen's Compensation Act, 1952 or the Employees Social Security Act.
The compulsory Public Holidays include the following: 1. National Day, 2. Birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, 3. Birthday of the Ruler or the Yang di-Pertuan Negeri or Federal Territory Day & 4. Workers Celebration Day.
